How to Play Opinionated
There are 5 Categories of Questions
Just For Fun (JF): These are “G rated” questions involving pop culture, celebrities, and other light topics.
Deep Thoughts (DT): These are “PG rated” questions involving thought-provoking topics like philosophy, religion, and politics.
Crazy Hypotheticals (CH): These are “PG rated” questions involving wacky counterfactual scenarios.
It’s Personal (IP): These are “PG-13 rated” questions involving opinions about the Asker themselves, or the Guessers.
Adults Only (AO): These are “R rated” questions involving mature topics – mainly sex and intimacy. Make sure you’re playing with the right crowd!
Gameplay
- The player with their birthday closest to November 28 is the first Asker. The Asker role rotates one player clockwise each turn.
- Each turn, the Asker will either select a category for a randomly generated question from that category, or will generate a random question from ANY category.
- Using the buttons on the page, the Asker will either generate a random question from a specific category, or generate one from ANY category. The Asker will read the question and 5 answer choices aloud. Then the Asker will tell the Guessers WHEN the Asker has selected their answer (but the Asker will NOT tell the Guessers WHICH answer they have selected).
- The Guessers will then give their guesses as to which answer choice the Asker selected, starting with the player to the right of the Asker.
- When all Guessers have given their guesses, the Asker will reveal the Answer they actually selected.
That’s It!
If you want a slightly more complex game, see the “Betting Version” rules below. But most people who play ditch scoring pretty quickly in favor of just asking and answering questions. If you enjoy playing, please please please share this game with your friends – we love seeing the Opinionated community grow.
Betting Version
For a slightly more involved game experience, you can incorporate a betting element as follows. Each player starts with 2 tokens. Players cannot lose these initial 2 tokens. During each turn, the Asker will select their question category, and the Guessers will have an opportunity to bet any number of their tokens (“First Betting Opportunity”). Then, the Asker will read the question from that category aloud, and Guessers who did not bet during the First Betting Opportunity will have another chance to bet (“Second Betting Opportunity”). All Guessers who end up guessing correctly will receive DOUBLE the amount of tokens they bet if they bet during the First Betting Opportunity, and the SAME amount of tokens if they bet during the Second Betting Opportunity. Guessers who bet and guessed incorrectly will lose all bet tokens. Play until one player reaches a certain amount of tokens, like 15.
